I wanted to share a story of a big rug, a big shop and the rug that just didn't fit in the big shop. This story involves a beautifully hand braided rug, a talented hand, a local rug cleaner, a talented hand again and a family that needed a big rug. Mike and I purchased 2 beautiful braided rugs. One fit nicely in the Royal Port and sold while the other one sat for a long time in our storage warehouse. When we brought it to the shop we soon discovered we had space limitations. The rug

was huge. The biggest braided rug I had ever seen. We rolled it out on the deck to measure and size up any repairs. We also weighed what to do. We knew that a local family from town, the Lefferts, were looking for a large rug but even this was too big for them. They loved the rug. Solution call in Interior decorator and designer, Kevin McLaughlin. Pictured are the two of us assessing the repairs and the
reduction of the rug's size. Kevin was so patient and very positive about doing the project. The Lefferts were excited too. The rug had separated in several areas and needed repairs in several places. Kevin went through and taped all the areas that needed repair. He also

spent hours reducing the size of the rug to fit the Lefferts bedroom. He spent a few sessions in front of our wood burning stove on the floor repairing the rug. When completed we brought the rug to local cleaner, Servpro, who did a beautiful job cleaning the rug. Then off to the Lefferts. After the cleaning Kevin did a few more repairs on site at the Leffert's home. The rug fit perfectly with the decor

in the room as well as perfectly matching the quilt that Linda had purchased from us. The one thing that I loved about the rug can be seen in the bedroom photo. The shape of the rug is different than your usual oval braided rug. The early maker took pride in the design and layout of fabric colors

and texture. You may have wondered what happened to the rest of the rug that Kevin unwound. Kevin took the braided strips and created another rug for the Lefferts. Project completed. Thank you Kevin and the Lefferts family for letting me share your story of the rug that now has a good home.
