Arts in Bloom Saturday and Sunday!!

Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend?  Salem County Tourism is having a Spring Studio and Gallery Tour of Salem County.  It features 23 locations and over 50 artists.  Across the County, artists are exhibiting the best of their work along with floral creations inspired by their art- "Arts in Bloom" in every sense!  Some locations are featuring musical performances.  It runs from Saturday,  May 30th, 10am-5pm to Sunday May 31st, 12 noon -5pm.  The best thing about it is that it is FREE.  Now that's an economic stimulus event!!!  To print out a copy of the brochure listing all of the locations and happenings along with a map go to Visit Salem County .  By the way, stop by to see us.  We've added a lot of new inventory.  We'll be offering our famous lemonade and iced tea!!!   Look for photos of our new inventory in my next post!  See you then.   Suzanne

Royal Port Antiques at York One Day Antiques Market!

What's Going on Around us in Salem County?

It's my favorite time of year.  You may say to yourself, "of course it is, it's the start of summer".  Not just that.  Today is the official opening of this years Farmer's Market in Salem City.  On Thursdays from May 21st to July 30th from 10am- 2pm Salem City's Downtown offers to us the growers, the bakers and the pork bbq makers ( I stole that from the ad card)  Catchy!!  So if you're planning on coming to the Royal Port during the week, shoot for a Thursday and stop by the Farmer's Market for some produce, great live music and a bite to eat.   For additional information go to the Salem City Website.  I'll see you there.   Suzanne

Lights, Cameras, Action at the Royal Port Antiques!!

We were busy Monday.  Salem County Tourism is doing a commercial and wanted to add our location.  We were thrilled.  I thought they'll come in, take a little video and that's a wrap.  No it was a lot more fun than that.   In came the 2 actors along with their costumes.  You can't have actors without a make up artist.  In came the director.  What a great guy.   In came the camera, the lights, the camera dolly. (and dolly man)  They didn't mind me looking over their shoulders and taking photos from time to time. They needed me.  I was the tag girl.  Can't have any tags showing.  No problem.   I wanted to jump right in there when he was showing the actors how to act like they were shopping.  I held back. They loved the architecture of the old mill and wanted to capture it in the shots.   After several takes it was a wrap upstairs. They also did a scene downstairs then off to their next stop.    The entire crew was so nice.  It was a great experience.  Can't wait to see the commercial.  Suzanne

What's new in May at the Royal Port?

We've been very busy adding new inventory to the shop.  It was a busy April which left a few empty spaces.  We can't have that.  We just brought in this nice 19th century 2 drawer over 2 door jelly cupboard with a beautiful back splash.  If you are looking for a jelly cupboard, we currently have six in varying styles and sizes in our inventory.  Email us if you are looking for a certain size or style.  The dry sink pictured is mid to later 19th century.  It is in beautiful condition.  It was refinished at one point in its life. (for those young parents-to-be this one is a perfect changing table)  We are always looking for nice mantels.   This painted  mantel is a classic revival style with columns and other nice details from the Robinson House in Old New Castle, Delaware.  Keep in mind we always have a nice selection of mantels from later 18th to early 20th century.  These cast iron railings would be a nice accent in the garden or home interior.  They are seperate pieces of the same design.  They remind me of the old church communion railings.  When Mike brought them in I almost knelt down.  Very nice details.  If you are looking for a bench table this one has some great details.  It's a 3 board top with 2 drawers.  We haven't had many with drawers.   It is in great condition.  The set of 4 painted arrow back plank bottom chairs, with bird and floral stencil decoration, go nicely with the table.   The beautiful blanket chest with 2 drawers has beautiful original hardware, all dovetailed, in great condition and nicely done decorative bracket feet.  The height of the chest makes it a nice addition to any room.  The painted cradle is also new to the shop.  It's a painted doll cradle with pin stripe decoration.  Nice detail to the rocker ends. (for all my cradle fans out there this is a nice one)  This is just a sample of the new things to start the month of May.  Stop in and see us.  The Open House Tour was a great success.  Hope some of you got a chance to see the beautiful historic homes in Salem County.  If not, there's always the Yuletide Tour in December.   Suzanne
