What else is new at the Royal Port!!!

Sorry I haven't blogged.  We were busy getting ready for the Ghost Walk last Friday Night.  It was a great success.  Tickets sold out plus.  Always room for more.  I will post some pictures soon.  I had a few more new pieces of inventory to share.   I took a shot of this booth because it had several nice pieces.  Since taking the photo the dough box did sell.  We do have 2 more in stock.   The pine jelly cupboard in the background is beautiful.  I love how tall it is.  It's harder to find the taller ones.  The large cupboard to the right is a nice 4 door cupboard.  It is more Victorian/country but mixes well with the country furnishings surrounding it.  We carry a lot of the converted oil lamps as seen on the jelly cupboard.  One of my favorite new pieces is this Great old Industrial cart.  We bought it at a local auction.  The day of the auction I met Mike there at lunch time.  We ended up eating outside on the cart.  We had several visitors, while we were eating, comment on our choice of seating.  One of Mike's friends commented on what a nice bench it would make.  Well of course that got my wheels turning.  (Had to add the photo of the cart wheel-get it?)   I have the cart decorated in my head.  I just have to set it up in the shop.  I will put a picture of it after it is decorated as a bench in the shop.  It is a really cool piece.  I can picture it in a foyer with pillows and a quilt or in a family room.  It would also make a great wood rack or a bench for a covered porch.  Wish I had room for it at home.   The last piece I want to share is a mantel.  It's an Adams Style Federal Mantel.  It has some beautiful details.             It does have several layers of paint but you can see the care that went into creating this mantel.  We have this mantel as well as over a dozen or more in stock.  If you are looking for one for a new home or for a restoration project, feel free to email and we can go over sizes and styles in stock.  They also make great stand alone shelves and headboards.  Well that's all for today. What's New at the Royal Port???

I thought it was a good time to add some photos of our new inventory and setups.  We've been having a good time redoing the shop as things are sold or delivered to our customers.  I love this open top cupboard in green paint.  It's a great display piece and has great color.  The grain bin is a nice dovetailed piece with a natural finish.  These bins are the best for storing pellets, wood or just a catchall for garden items. This 4 board top bench table  is a nice size.  It has a scrub top with a painted base.  It's nice as a bench or as a table.  We use one at home as a bench in our foyer and I love it. Another nice piece is this corner cupboard base.  We look for them all the time since they are a great entertainment center.  They're a nice base for a tv.  This one is a brown surface over an original mustard, 2 drawers over 2 doors.  There's a nice amount of storage. I added the photo of this slant front desk because it is such a nice piece.  I can picture it in someone's kitchen, bedroom, child's bedroom.  It's not too big.  It has a dainty feel about it.  A nice stool or two would be a great compliment to the piece.  I also like to stack boxes of different sizes underneath it. Keeping with the children's theme is this doll house.   I think the roof on it is better than ours.  Mike uncovered the beautiful tile floor under the carpet. (Sounds like a typical old house discovery)  It has beautifully done wallpaper too.  The exterior is a beautiful clapboard.  I haven't seen one like this before.  It is a very heavy piece.  Move in condition.  A nice piece for any doll or toy collector.  If you are looking for a small chest for a bedroom or family room, this mustard painted one is perfect.  I have it at the end of the bed but it would make a great coffee table or chest for anywhere in the home. Are you in need of storage space?  This blue & white painted cupboard is a great storage piece.  It's a fun piece to decorate around, especially if you are a blue person.  And now for a Mike's Funky Finds Piece.  Talk about a piece from the past.  What's cool about the late 1800 and early 1900's is all the gadgetry.  This was used to measure out rope.  We don't have it set up but I think it would still work.  Neat for those who collect country store.  Well I'm running out of time but have more photos.  I will blog more this week about our new inventory.  Stop by, call or email if you are looking for anything.  Suzanne

 

What's Going on in Salem City, NJ?

As I was opening the shop last week I really got to thinking how lucky we were to have picked such a beautiful location for our business.  On the one end of the building is a beautiful view of Fenwick Creek with some of the most beautiful wildlife.  I had to share some photos. This is what our customers see when they get to the entrance of the shop.  As I was opening on the other side of the building I heard the horns from the train coming down the track.  The old engine squealing on the tracks.  This is the view our customers see from the front porch.  Pretty cool.  Salem County has some of the most beautiful countryside as well as great architecture and great history.  I wanted to share with you two reasons to come visit the town.  There are a few upcoming events that are a lot of fun.    On Friday October 24th at 7pm the Rotary Clubs of Salem are having the 2nd Annual Walking Ghost Tour of Salem City, NJ.  Tickets sold out last year.  

  It was so much fun.  Everyone meets here at the shop and gathers into groups on the porch.  The tour goes along Market Street where guides and homeowners tell tales of sightings along the way.  Everyone meets back for hot drinks and treats at the shop.  It was the most people we have had in the shop at one time. It was a great community event.  Also save the date for the 21st Annual Yuletide Tour of Salem City on December 6th from 1-6pm. As part of the committee we are working hard to make this year's tour a great success.   I will blog more about the tour as the time gets closer.
